Åsa Larsson has been awarded the Finnish Detective Society’s diploma for best foreign suspense literature of 2022 for her latest book The Sins of Our Fathers.

The jury’s motivation reads:

“Åsa Larsson (b. 1966) skillfully combines realistic storytelling and Nordic mysticism in her novel series. She addresses social themes such as equality, corruption, and use of power in religious communities. But at the same time, it does not turn into a sermon, which is common for authors who write about society. The crimes are often born from the tragic events in the past that, as the story continues, gradually are revealed […] Martinsson do also have her own mental problems, an important representation that is rare in the detective genre. The merit of the Rebecka Martinsson series is further its perfect consistency: each novel captures the reader’s heart, and the theme and plot hold together excellently all the way to the end […] The series has been translated into Finnish by Katriina Savolainen (the three first books), Sanna Manninen, Kari Koski and Kirsi Kokkonen. They have all done a wonderful job.”

The Finnish Detective Society was founded in 1984 and each year they present an author with a diploma for best foreign suspense literature of the year.

The Sins of Our Fathers, the final book in the Rebecka Martinsson series, was published by Otava on January 1st, 2022.
