Television viewers won’t be going back to Three Pines.
Prime Video has canceled the series, based on the Chief Inspector Gamache mysteries by Louise Penny, after its first season, Variety reports.
The series featured Alfred Molina as Chief Inspector Armand Gamache, a Quebec detective who investigates crimes in the town of Three Pines. It drew from the series of novels by Penny that started in 2006 with Still Life; 17 others books have followed, including the most recent, A World of Curiosities, published last November.Three Pines debuted last year, and drew mostly positive reviews from critics, with Michael Hogan of the Daily Telegraph calling it “a moreish winter treat” and Craig Mathieson of the Sydney Morning Herald writing, “The show can be grimly serious and somewhat eccentric in the same episodes, but Molina navigates the tonal breadth with ease.”
On Instagram, Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers, who starred in the series, wrote, “Thank you to everyone who watched and supported the show. It meant the world to me knowing that this show resonated with such a massive global audience.…I’m going to miss working with our Three Pines family with all my heart.”
And on Facebook, Penny wrote, “I am shocked and upset. Like any show, it had growing pains, but it was only going to get better and better. And it already had Alfred Molina as Gamache! Alfred was deeply invested in the show.”
