If there is one thing that Cannes is sure to give us, it’s looks. Remember Princess Diana’s iconic light blue strapless chiffon gown and matching silk scarf moment? She wore that at the festival in 1987. In 1991, there was Madonna’s silver pointy bra. In 2021, Hadid’s gold Schiaparelli lung bra. It all happened at Cannes.
What Is the Cannes Film Festival?
Formerly known as International Film Festival, Cannes is an annual festival in the south of France that screens new international films across all genres. This is Cannes’s 76th festival, and this year it will roll out the red carpet and premiere anticipated movies like Killers of the Flower Moon, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, and Monster. We are even getting a teaser of Sam Levinson’s controversial new HBO series, The Idol.
Who Will Be at Cannes?
Cannes is about the movies, but some of us get pleasure from seeing Bella Hadid and Naomi Campbell serve a look and hope for another Don’t Worry Darling Harry Styles spit-gate (I can settle for a Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner red-carpet appearance). We already got a very rare Zendaya showing alongside Anne Hathaway, BLACKPINK’s Lisa, and Priyanka Chopra at the Bulgari party. And we know Johnny Depp is in attendance due to his viral and undeserving standing ovation at last night’s screening of the French film Jeanne Du Barry. But this year we can expect Natalie Portman, Cate Blanchett, and Scarlett Johansson to show up on their ritual red-carpet appearances. Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro will also be there for Martin Scorsese’s new movie, Killers of the Flower Moon.
